Though I couldn’t actually attend the auction of Edward Gorey’s fur coats and miscellaneous belongings, I did follow it with great interest. Fortunately, the Paris Review has a writeup of the evening, populated by people who “showed the true and devoted look of Gorey fans.”

Most of the coats went for between $3000 and $6000 dollars, with the final coat being won by A.N. Devers, a Gorey devotee (and author of the Paris Review account) who, while leaving the auction with her coat, was told by another auction attendee,  “You must live up to this coat!”
