After spending the evening at parent evening at my kids’ Waldorf school talking about the importance of limiting media exposure in young kids, I was able to really appreciate this poster put out by the Denver Colorado nonprofit literacy group, Burning Through Pages.
It comes at a time when our 3rd grader’s class is being infiltrated by pop and rap and lyrics demeaning to women specifically but, really, humanity in general. So we find ourselves weighing the benefits of media (which are…?) against the downsides (limited attention span, robbing kids of their imagination). Bottom line, our kid’s teacher said it best: They have their entire adult lives to listen to this stuff. Why not let them be kids?
